Supporting Beginning Readers: A Workshop for Elementary School Library Staff
The Red Lion Hotel, Pocatello 8:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.
This workshop is designed for recipients of ICfL's School Library Access grant; however, any staff person working in an Idaho school or public library may attend and join us at 9:30 a.m. Mini-grant recipients will begin with a mandatory grant meeting promptly at 8:30. Sponsored by Read to Me, a program of the Idaho Commission for Libraries (ICfL) - lunch and light snacks provided, free for Idaho library staff.

8:15 a.m. Registration opens for 2016-2017 School Library Access and Summer Access grant recipients
8:30 a.m. Business meeting for 2015-2016 SLA grant recipients
9 a.m. Registration opens for Non-grant attendees
9:30 Official Start-Time: Welcome & introductions
9:45 Background on how literacy develops in elementary-age students and how school libraries can best support that development
10:30 Break
10:45 Circulation policies that increase access
11:30 Importance of informational text in supporting Idaho Core Standards and a hands-on look at good nonfiction choices for beginning readers
12:15 Working lunch (lunch provided)
1:00 p.m. A word (or two) about weeding; Motivating kids to read
2:45 Break
3 p.m. Novelist K-8; Summer Learning Loss; Read to Me and ICfL support

End between 4:00 – 4:15 p.m
Mileage will be reimbursed for those traveling more than 40 miles one way from your school to the workshop location. Travel forms will be available at the workshops.
